Babakan Siliwangi Bandung, Forest City First in Indonesia
Babakan Siliwangi Bandung or better known as Baksil, a green area located in the center of town. The extent which reaches approximately 3.8 hectares with vegetation that is dense enough, make this area worth mentioning as city forest.
As an urban forest, Babakan Siliwangi Bandung artificial forest is not really new there some time back. Moreover, Baksil can be regarded as part of the forest ecosystem in Bandung which still survive today. In other words, Baksil are the remnants of an ancient forest Bandung.

Judging from the topography, Baksil region is an area of the valley formed by the River Cikapundung. forming process has occurred since tens of thousands of years ago. Therefore natural that this wiayah is well aligned with the history and culture of the people of Bandung.
In the colonial period, this area has been known as greenbelt Bandung by the name of Lebak Gede. Therefore, urban planning expert Bandung in 1920 and then to plan and set this area as an urban forest.

This is evident from the establishment of Botanical and zoological parks around Baksil now known as Tamansari and Bandung Zoo. During the Japanese occupation, the establishment of a museum in this area has been included in the development plan. However, the plan ended with the Japanese surrender to the Allies.
In 50-80'an, commercialization occurs for the first time. Establishment of food stalls and garden art as a form of physical development of the region. Change the name of Lebak Gede be Lebak Siliwangi and Babakan Siliwangi ensued in this era.
